Boston, USA (December 2001)
Piwi visited Boston and spent his first Christmas away from home, in somewhat cooler conditions than he's used to experiencing, during our Southern Hemisphere Summer! We wrote to him, just to let him know we were thinking of him at Christmas time...
"I'm just a little Kiwi and I've never seen bows as big as this...if the bows are this big... I'd love to see the presents ;-) "Don't forget I'm up here will you?"
In 1636, Harvard, the first American University, was founded in Newtowne (now Cambridge) And we've all heard of the Boston Tea Party... December 16, 1773.
Central Square, Cambridge, MA. This is the life! I got to see all the sights and my legs didn't even get tired!
A street shot with Cheryl, who looked after Piwi while he was in Boston. This was also taken in Central Square.
Now, this is something Piwi's not used to, but I'm sure he had fun on the ice and in the snow! Ice skating on Frog Pond, Boston Common... playing in the snow outside Cheryl's building.. and on a pedestrian bridge in the Public Garden. Here's something we should all recognise...the Cheers Bar. Apparently, it's real name is The Bull and Finch Pub, on Beacon Hill, Boston. It looks as though Piwi had plenty to do and see while he was in Boston. Thank you Cheryl for the photos and we hope to hear from Piwi again soon, once he arrives at his new destination.... Baton Rouge, Louisiana USA.
I thought this was interesting...The Great Molasses Tragedy, 15th January 1919. Check out this link... https://members.tripod.com/~earthdude1/molasses/molasses.html
